Matt Sprake - Greenfield

Matt for Greenfield

Introduction

As a fellow local resident, member of the Greenfield community, and having previously grown up in Bagillt, I know we live in a fantastic part of the world which has sadly been underfunded, ignored, and under represented over recent years which has impacted our ability to grow and prosper.

Council Tax continues to spiral uncontrollably and local infrastructure projects, such as Greenfield Railway Station, have not come to fruition despite the promises.

I am standing to be your representative on Flintshire County Council, and Holywell Town Council, to use my experience to finally deliver for our local community.

Over the years I have worked for a number of Members of Parliament, working alongside Government Departments and organisations such as the Transport for London, Network Rail, and Wandsworth Borough Council (which has the lowest council tax in the United Kingdom) to deliver improvements to support local communities.

I have successfully worked on campaigns with Transport for London to install a lift at Southfields Station, lobbied to increase trains on the District Line, and worked in conjunction with Wandsworth Borough Council on various projects to help residents in South-West London. More recently, I have provided laptops to disadvantaged children in Delyn during the Coronavirus pandemic and alongside Network Rail, I have helped deliver investment to Ffynnongroyw to finally alleviate decades old flooding issues in the village.

Vote for me on Thursday 5 May and I will use my skills and experience to get things done in Greenfield. I will fight to ensure my home, and your home, Greenfield, lives up to its full potential.

Vote Matt on May 5th

My Priorities for Greenfield

1. Council Tax

This election matters because Flintshire County Council have made their intentions clear, to continue to increase our already unaffordable council tax bill.  The council tax you pay has increased a staggering 30% since 2017, and 50% since 2012. This is clearly unsustainable for hard working families. As your Councillor I will vote against any proposed council tax increase.

2. Greenfield Station

Numerous opportunities to get the station up and running, such as the New Stations Fund, have been missed. Most recently two rounds of the Levelling Up Fund have been and gone as Flintshire County Council chose to direct their efforts elsewhere.

A recent study has concluded that a Greenfield Railway Station is feasible in engineering terms, and viable in economic terms but despite plenty of talk, there has been very little action.

As your Councillor I will work to ensure Greenfield Station receives the necessary funding to commence with the next stage of the project, the Strategic Outline Business Case, so we can get the project back on track and reap the benefits of this long overdue vital transport connection.

3. Flooding

Residents along the coast road know all too well the risk of flooding which has ruined their homes, possessions, and blighted their lives with the fear of future flooding incidents.

I have helped residents both here in Greenfield, along with other communities in Delyn, to alleviate flooding concerns and deliver infrastructure improvements. As your Councillor I will continue to work to improve local infrastructure and alleviate the risk of flooding.

Losing your possessions to flooding can be devastating. Improvements are ongoing to resolve longstanding concerns for residents and I will continue to work to ensure further progress is made to fix this persistent issue for residents.

4. Fairer funding for Flintshire

Flintshire is one of the worst funded local authorities in Wales, receiving the third lowest funding per capita by the Welsh Government. We rank 20 out of 22 councils in Wales.

If Flintshire had been awarded the Average Welsh per capita funding, we would have received over £100 million extra from the Welsh Government to invest in local services over the past five years. It is abhorrent your representatives have allowed this to continue.

I will fight for residents of Flintshire and Greenfield to receive their fair share of funding from the Welsh Government.
